Shipped this week
Buildkite shipped 40 releases. Three themes.
Diagnosis. Agents put blocking failures first and retry infrastructure failures. Desktop alerts and log summaries are more reliable.
Compatibility. GitHub Actions workflows get hashFiles() in composite actions, Windows checkout fixes, and retries for temporary token failures.
Control. Track billable usage, manage memberships in Terraform, and choose what to cache or test.
- Focused failure investigations. The MCP server prioritizes blocking failures, retries only infrastructure failures, checks GitHub installation API quotas, and manages cache registries. The Buildkite CLI (
bk) exposes flaky test failures and follows failures into triggered builds. Bedrock Summarize v1.2.0 fixes formatting and argument-size failures on large logs. Artifacts v1.11.0 lets retry rules tell artifact download failures from command failures. - Steadied desktop build monitoring. The macOS menu bar app fixes missed and duplicate build alerts, retries rejected notifications, and keeps build status current while its panel is closed. v1.0.65 isolates account state, retries failed initial loads, and warns when it cannot save credentials to the Keychain.
- Expanded GitHub Actions compatibility. GitHub Actions workflows on Buildkite can use
hashFiles()in composite action steps and opt intomerge_groupdestruction events, which hosted builds also need Buildkite to enable for your organization. Imports now check explicit runner mappings before upload, and checkout now works on Windows agents running Git for Windows 2.56.0. v0.102.1 retries temporary workflow-token failures, andbk secret migrate github-actionsreplaces the removedbuildkite-gha migrate-secretscommand. - Tightened platform administration. The API exposes billable active-user usage for comparison with your contracted allowance. Terraform provider updates add pipeline discovery and cluster cache registries, while v1.42.0 adds organization membership management. From v1.40.0, managing
buildkite_organizationrequires organization-settings API scopes. AWS Assume Role with Web Identity v1.8.0 adds custom OpenID Connect (OIDC) audiences for role-specific trust policies. - Reused work and narrowed test runs. Agent updates add
cache execto skip cached commands. v4.3.0 adds opt-in Git Large File Storage (LFS) caching and skips identical archive uploads. Elastic CI Stack for AWS v7.4.0 includes that agent, and its Terraform module v1.0.0 moves to agent v4. The Tests plugin v1.1.0 adds manual test selection, which needs the test engine client (bktec) 3.3.0 or later. Monorepo Diff v1.12.0 addsskip_on_no_changesto keep dependencies on unmatched steps resolvable.
