Build tools for the best
software teams in the world.
We're looking for a Director of Product Management to help shape a tool that thousands of developers use every day. You’ll be responsible for the teams working on Buildkite Pipelines and Test Analytics, working directly with the Product Managers in those teams as they conduct research and discovery, drive delivery, and set goals to assess the customer impact of their work.
You’ll report directly to our VP of Product.
Your typical day may include:
Jumping on a scheduled checkin call with a customer, to see what they and ask some questions about how their Buildkite agents are configured
Participating a Product Management practice sync on Zoom, celebrating a successful release and leading a conversation among the PMs on some areas of challenge and growth
A regular 1:1 with one of your PMs, to go over recent research and discovery work, check in on their team’s progress, and talk through some feedback on their current behaviour and performance
Working with your Director of Engineering counterpart to sketch out some new team processes in Figjam
Writing a message on Basecamp to summarize those changes and get feedback before rolling them out
Putting a deck together with one of your PMs who asked for help preparing sales enablement material for a new feature release next week
Working with a Recruiter in People Ops to put together a hiring plan for some new Product Management and Design roles coming up
This job is for you if you:
Have experience working with developer tools, and a deep understanding of developer experience
Enjoy leading groups of Product Managers, guiding and coaching them to their fullest potential
Drive consistency and excellence around product process and approach by demonstrating desired behaviours, and collaborating with PMs as needed.
Have experience leading research and discovery, strategy and lifecycle management across a product suite
Collaborate with peers across Marketing, Sales and Support to ensure that the right processes and accountability are in place to ensure the Product function is addressing their needs
Continuously monitor, assess and improve the health of the teams you’re responsible for
Have planned organization and team changes, including hiring/building new teams
Have empathy and effective communication skills. We are a remote company, so you’ll spend time on Zoom calls, Linear and Basecamp with your colleagues

We build tools to help the best software teams stay happy and productive. We’ve rethought how CI/CD should work and have built a platform that is fast, reliable, secure, and is able to scale to the needs of the most demanding high-growth tech companies including Shopify, Pinterest, Wayfair, Cruise, PagerDuty, Culture Amp, and Canva.
Buildkite is a differently shaped company that values work-life balance and supports staff to work the ways that make sense for them. From the beginning, our goal has been to build a company that is people-centered, supportive and just a little bit weird 💚

We believe small companies are beautiful, and that small teams can achieve big things. This makes everyone on the team an important part of Buildkite.
We don’t keep set office hours, so you can shift your hours around life’s commitments and non-work activities. Take time out of work for exercise, family or whatever life throws at you.
In a small but growing company, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, and ship work that helps customers.
We’re a globally distributed company, and all our work happens remotely. Work from your home office, a co-working space, or your local cat café.
Invest in your personal and professional development with a yearly budget to spend on travel, conferences, workshops, courses, and books.
We’ll make sure that you and your family have access to comprehensive health and hospital cover, no matter which country you live in.
Take time out to set up a new family, with 6 months of paid leave if you’re the primary carer, and 3 months if you’re secondary. You can use it flexibly, change between primary and secondary, and take the same leave for a still birth. We also keep paying super/401k for 6 months if you take unpaid leave.
Set yourself up with a great work environment, either at home or in a co-working space, with a budget for a desk and chair, and a new computer and phone every 24 months. We’ll also cover the cost of plants, art, or anything else you need to set yourself up with a beautiful and productive work environment.
Take care of your health and wellbeing away from the screen, with 6 weeks of paid leave per year, the ability to take time out of work for fitness, and a yearly budget to spend on things like yoga, climbing, personal training, or a day at the zoo.
Share in the company’s success, and have a stake in what you’re helping to build. Everyone on the team receives a percentage share of the company profits each quarter, and an equity stake through our employee share program.
If you’ve got any questions or issues with the application process, please let us know.
